The Consumers

COLLEGE STUDENTS     One of the larger consumers that buy fast food and other unhealthy foods are usually college students because of the hassle it is to make something healthier in their dorm. “After doing an extensive survey of college student eating habits, researchers found that what's for dinner on most college campuses is fast food. This is particularly true among male college students who usually chose a quick meal at a fast food restaurant over preparing something in their apartment or dorm room” (Leong). This evidence shows that college students are very loose about what is on their plate at dinner. They get so worn down from studying for classes that as long as they are eating something they are fine with it.

YOUNGER CHILDREN Younger children consume large quantities of sugar and fats per day. According to Melinda Sothern who has a Ph.D. in exercise physiology, and is a childhood obesity specialist, had “‘One 9-year-old girl who weighed over 300 pounds recently came to the clinic accompanied by her perplexed mother. The mom couldn't understand why her daughter was so large -- after all, she didn't eat much. When questioned by the staff, the girl said she drank four or five 20-ounce sodas a day. That's about 1,000 to 1,250 calories a day’” (Woolston). This example shows that this obesity epidemic is very serious and that if Americans keep on this path of unhealthy food decisions, numerous measures of children will become three hundred pounds at age nine. In order to prevent this from occurring the consumers will need to be very cautious of what they are eating.
